General Instructions

Choose your state from the list below to access detailed instructions for both business and personal tax extensions.

Corporation tax returns are due by April 15 — or by the 15th day of the 4th month following the end of the taxable year (for fiscal year filers).

New Jersey offers a 6-month extension of time to file corporation returns, which moves the filing deadline to October 15 (for calendar year filers).

To apply for a business extension, file New Jersey Form CBT-200-T by the original deadline of your return.

An extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. If you owe New Jersey tax, it must be paid by the original due date to avoid penalties and interest. You can make a tentative tax payment with Form CBT-200-T, or you can pay electronically via NJ Online Services for Businesses: www1.state.nj.us/TYTR_BusinessFilings

You are required to file Form CBT-200-T to request a New Jersey extension even if you electronically paid your tentative tax.
