General Instructions
Choose your state from the list below to access detailed instructions for both business and personal tax extensions.
Individual income tax returns are due by April 15, in most years.
The District of Columbia offers a 6-month extension, which moves the filing deadline to October 15.
You can apply for a DC extension by filing Form FR-127 on or before the original deadline of your tax return (April 15).
An extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay. If you owe DC income tax, it must be paid by the original due date — or interest and penalties will be charged. You can make a DC extension payment with Form FR-127, or you can file and pay electronically through the Individual Income Tax Service Center: otr.cfo.dc.gov/individual-income-tax-service-center
