General Instructions

Choose your state from the list below to access detailed instructions for both business and personal tax extensions.

Corporate income tax returns are due by March 15 — or by the 15th day of the 3rd month following the end of the taxable year (for fiscal year filers). Business privilege tax returns are due by March 15 for calendar year corporations, or April 15 for calendar year limited liability entities.

Alabama offers an Automatic 6-month tax extension, which moves the filing deadline from March 15 to September 15 (for calendar year filers). There are no forms or electronic filings to submit.

A tax extension gives you more time to file, NOT to pay. To avoid late payment penalties, your Alabama tax liability must be fully paid by the original deadline of the return (March 15 for most corporations, or April 15 for limited liability entities). If you owe over $750, you must make your extension payment electronically via Alabama Interactive – Extension Payments.

If your Alabama extension payment is less than $750, you may pay by check or money order. To make a corporate income tax payment, use Alabama Form BIT-V. To make a business privilege tax payment, use Alabama Form BPT-V.
