State of Alabama Personal Income Tax Extensions – Tax Year 2010
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS |
|
Individuals in Alabama are required to report and pay their state income taxes using Form 40, Form 40A, or Form 40NR. For tax year 2010, returns must be filed by April 18, 2011 with the Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR). Taxpayers who file late will be subject to penalties and interest charges ― however, there is an option to receive six extra months to file. If you cannot file your Alabama state tax return by the due date, you do not need to officially request a tax extension. The Alabama Department of Revenue automatically grants six-month tax extensions, giving you until October 18, 2011 to file your return. In general, no extensions are permitted for more than six months (except in cases where taxpayers are out of the country). It’s important to note that if you expect to owe state income tax this year, it must still be paid by the original deadline of April 18, 2011. You can make your state tax payment online (via ACH Debit, E-Check, or credit card) or with a check or money order (accompanied by Form 40-V (Individual Income Tax Payment Voucher).
For additional information, please visit the Alabama Department of Revenue’s Individual and Corporate Tax Division, under the "Automatic Extension" section.
