State of Ohio Personal Income Tax Extensions – Tax Year 2010

 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

The State of Ohio will automatically grant you a 6-month tax extension if you are approved for a federal tax extension. However, if you need to make a state tax payment, you will need to submit Ohio Form IT 40P (PDF).

If you do not need to make a state tax payment and have received an approval notification from FileLater, there’s nothing more to do. Ohio does not offer state tax extensions if a federal extension was not granted. Be sure to attach a copy of your federal extension form (IRS Tax Form 4868) to you state tax return when filed.

Filing for an Ohio tax extension will not provide you with additional time to pay any tax balance due, which must be paid by the original filing deadline, or interest and other payment penalties may apply.

For additional information, please visit the State of Ohio Department of Taxation website.
